Most suggestions on this list have in common that they are police procedural like shows with an eccentric consultant. Shows like that are a dime a dozen, but this list contains some of the better ones.
Patrick Jane is a former famous psychic. He outs himself as a fake after a serial killer called Red John kills his family.
Jane blames himself. Right before the murders of his family, Jane was mocking Red John on national TV.
Jane joins the California Bureau of Investigation, the CBI, as a consultant. His life goal is to hunt down and kill Read John. Working for the CBI makes this easier.
Jane's skills as a mentalist, ex psychic, and con man come in handy. He's an expert at picking up on small details, thinking on his feet, and tricking people to get what he wants. His unorthodox methods help CBI to close lots of cases.

All Rights ReservedBest Isekai Anime Recommendations2020-06-08T22:19:57+00:002020-07-16T19:33:31+00:00https://afictionaluniverse.com/feature/list/best-isekai-anime-recommendations/We have created the ultimate list of the best Isekai Anime recommendations. If you are looking for Anime that will transport you to another world then try some of our Isekai suggestions.
Anime in this genre can include stories where people from those other worlds are transported to earth, or where people can travel freely back and forth. We have chosen to exclude these. Our recommendations only include Isekai stories where people have become Stuck in this other world. Some are reborn and can't come back at while others are just temporarily Stuck or Trapped.
What is Isekai?
The Isekai genre usually centers around a normal person from Earth being transported to, reborn, or otherwise trapped in a parallel universe, fantasy world, or virtual world.
It's not a rule, but these people are usually Gamers, Otaku, NEETs, or Hikikomori. They typical have or gain, some kind of powerful abilities that help them to survive in the new universe. This is typically some high-level knowledge, magical abilities, or in the case trapped in VR game stories, stats that surpass other players. The main characters are often overpowered.
Main types of Isekai
Most Isekai animes can be categorized in the following three types. There are of course some exception, but most falls roughly within these categories. Some of the exceptions are reverse transported and possession, but they usually fall into the following main categories.
1. Transported/Summoned
In the Transported and Summoned type, the main character is suddenly transported into another fantasy universe. Usually, they are summoned by someone in this other universe. In some cases, they can freely travel between the universes, but as mentioned, in this list we focus on stories where the main character is stuck in another universe.
Being transported to another world and getting stuck used to be the most common Isekai type, but the other types have become more popular in recent years.
2. Reborn
In the Reborn Isekai stories, the main character dies in our world and is reborn in another. The main character usually starts out young and remembers their previous life. They are usually reborn into new people in this other universe, but sometimes they also take possession of existing people from this other universe.
The Reborn Isekai type has gained more popularity in recent years. Many of the main characters are killed off in traffic accidents. Traffick accidents are so common as plot devices in anime that they have been a popular meme. A meme called truck-kun.
3. Virtual Reality/Game Related
The VR or Game type of Isekai stories usually involves people getting stuck in VR while playing. They can no longer log off. Sometimes the characters are able to escape, but other times their consciousness is transferred into the game. Another option that also is common is that the VR game world becomes real and the main character gets transported into it.
Isekai in other mediums
Do Isekai stories only exist in Anime and Manga? No. There are other closely related genres in Books, Movies, and TV-Shows.
LitRPG is a book genre that is growing in popularity. Most of them are very similar to Isekai stories, but with a stronger focus on RPG and Game elements. Check out this article about LitRPG, what is it and where to start?

This article has a list of the 10 best Dungeon Core books, or more precisely, the 10 best Dungeon Core book series. Hopefully, you will find some of our recommendations to your taste.
But first, a small introduction to what Dungeon Core is.
What is Dungeon Core?
Dungeon Core is usually thought of as a subgenre of the LitRPG genre or at least closely related. Check this article for what LitRPG is and some good suggestions.
Dungeon Core books have a dungeon as its main character, and it wants to grow and expand. Often it's a human that has died and becomes a dungeon core.
Usually, the dungeons grow by leveling up and spending points on what to grow stronger in. Just like most LitRPG books. But some also grow more like how they do in Wuxia/cultivation books.
The way that dungeons usually get the power they need to grow stronger is from sentient beings inside their realm. Mainly from them dying.
Dungeons kill adventurers.
To get more sentient being inside their realm to become stronger they need to build larger dungeons. Build more levels with traps and monsters that become gradually stronger the deeper the adventurers go.
Growing, building, and crafting.
Monsters, traps, and treasures.
The dungeons need to balance getting people to want coming back and killing them to grow stronger.
It's usually a symbiotic relationship between the adventurers and the dungeons.
Dungeon Core Recommendations
We have come up with a list of the 10 best Dungeon Core books we have read. Or as mentioned earlier, the 10 best Dungeon Core series.
Most of them follow the above description about Dungeon Core books, but to every rule there are exceptions. Some of the following Dungeon Core recommendations do not follow the above description exactly. But they all have dungeons as a core element of the story.
