Magne, his mother, and his younger brother Laurits return to the Norwegian town of Edda, a small fictional town in Norway, after many years of absence. As they arrive in Edda, a mysterious old woman activates a supernatural and strange power in Magne after seeing him perform a good deed, a power that has a strange likeness to a certain Norse God. Magne already has social problems so this new power in him does not make it any easier for him when he and his brother starts at the local high school. Despite his problems, Magne becomes friends with the climate and green advocate Isolde. When Isolde later dies in a paragliding accident Magne starts too suspect that it was not an accident and something more sinister is going on.
