Books like Dungeon Born (The Divine Dungeon #1)
This is a world where dungeons are at the top of the food chain, and there are millions of them. Dungeon and humans are meant to have a symbiotic relationship. Dungeons get mana from humans in their territory and humans get scenes from dungeons.
In the north far away from any mana source, two dungeons live together in a taboo relationship. Because they are from rival factions. They live there with their child, who looks exactly like a human. A human born from two dungeon cores.
But then his parents are found and destroyed.
Fleeing for his life, the human-looking core flee south and starts living with the humans.
Is Dungeon World good?
The Dungeon World books are interesting Dungeon Core books with an original twist. A dungeon core born in a human body and having to learn to live as a human. Hunted by his own and hiding his nature from the humans.
Dungeon World has strong LitRPG elements and less dungeon core mechanics than usual.
Dungeon World is a good and interesting read.
Why is Dungeon World recommended?
Dungeon World is another Dungeon Core book. If you like Divine Dungeon you will probably like this series too. The main difference is that the dungeon core has a human body and it has less humor.
The best part about the Dungeon World series is that it is finished. No need to wait for more books to be released.
Dina Demille is by all appearances a fine young woman who runs a quiescent Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town. She also owns a small Shih Tzu named Beast.
By all counts, she should be a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem is what to serve her guests for breakfast.
But Dina does not have a regular bed and breakfast.
It's an inn for otherworldly travelers who need a place to stay. The inn is also not a regular house, its a living thinking magical construct that requires inhabitants to survive. It also has the capability ti shaped to whatever form Dina or her guest needs.
But Dina's inn is not in top shape, it's on the verge of starvation.
To solve this Dina has let a retired aristocrat responsible for millions of deaths permanently hide out in her inn. The inn need some inhabitants to survive, it does not care who. And since Inns are neutral zones, no one can stop her from housing this Aristocrat.
But this is not unproblematic. Not everyone cares about the inn's neutrality.
But that's not all.Dinaalso gets entangled with a Vampire commander and her neighbor that's a werewolf.
Is Innkeeper Chronicles good?
I love the Innkeeper Chronicles.
It has good character focus and interesting world-building.
It's absolutely worth reading.
Why is Innkeeper Chronicles recommended?
The Innkeeper Chronicles is not a Dungeon Core book. It is closer to a paranormal fantasy and science fiction mix. It has more romantic elements like most paranormal fantasies have.
But it is a good series, and something about the Inn makes me thing about dungeons.
Bethany Anne is fucking good special investigator in the army.
However, there is one sad part, she is dying. She has a rare blood disease with no known cure.
But she is not letting that stop her, she is going strong all the way to the end.
But unbeknownst to her, she is put up for a possible secretive "promotion" because of an old deal the government made with the Patriarch of the unknown world.
But this time is different, he is not only looking to make new vampires, but he is also looking for a possible candidate to take over for him.
Is The Kurtherian Gambit good?
The Kurtherian Gambit is a fast-paced action story with a strong female character.
I like this series, but Bethany Anne can be a little to invulnerable. The swearing can also be a little over the top at times. The books are to short already, why waste half of them on swear words.
Why is The Kurtherian Gambit recommended?
Both are fast-paced, funny, and centers around building up their power, Progression fantasy.
The Kurtherian Gambit centers around building up a global hidden empire while The Divine Dungeon centers around dungeon building.
Milton Frederick was a professional gamer. He was the strategy coordinator for one of the top guilds in the online game Crowned Lieges of Destiny.
But then he was abducted by aliens.
They transferred his consciousness into a Station Core. They were going to use him, and many others, as a defense against other alien threats.
But Milton was lost in transit to his designated destination.
Confused and damaged, Milton finds himself trapped on a strange and primitive world filled with dangerous creatures.
Why is Station Cores recommended?
Station Core is more of a science fiction Dungeon Core series and not the like the usual fantasy ones.
But if you like Divine Dungeon you will still most likely also enjoy Station Core.
Joe is an army medic that had an accident at work and has become a quadriplegic with no chance of getting healthy again. When he is given the option to permanently transition his consciousness into a virtual world, a game, he takes it.
When he enters the game he is given the option of picking a special class, a ritualist. Its a class with huge potential, but it also has the drawback that if anyone discovers his class, he will be hunted down.
Is Completionist Chronicles good?
The Ritualist (Completionist Chronicles) is among the best LitRPG books I have read so far.
Joe does not have a typical fighting class, and he is not turned into aMary Sue character. The story is interesting, and I love the game elements and character leveling in this book.
Why is Completionist Chronicles recommended?
Dakota Krout has written both series, and it shows in the writing. If you love one then you will most likely love the other. The genres LitRpg and Dungeon Core are also closely related.
Bob Johansson has just sold his software company and now he is looking forward to a life of leisure as a rich man.
Sadly Bob dies in an accident right after reaching his dreams.
But before he died, Bob paid for a service to freeze his brain. It will be kept frozen until we have the technology to put it into a new body.
However, when he wakes up a century later, he discovers that dead people have been declared to be without rights. Bob is now the property of the state.
As if that wasn't enough, he has been uploaded into a computer. His new task is to be the controlling AI of an interstellar von Neumann probe. His goal is to search for new habitable planets humanity can colonize.
If he declines, he'll be switched off.
If he accepts, he becomes the main target of competing states with similar projects and goals.
Is Bobiverse good?
The Bobiverse series is the best sci-fi book series I have read in a long while.
It's full of references to interesting science and popular culture.
It has a good story with cool humor. It's also very interesting and funny how the different bobs interact with each other.
Why is Bobiverse recommended?
Bobiverse is not fantasy and not about dungeons. But something about the way the Bobs spread around, build, and grow makes me think about Dungeon Core books.
James and his friends were among the top teams on the newest and greatest VRMMORPG game, The Land. When they were riding a new dungeon he was separated from his friends.
A game boss, or so hi thinks, asks him a question.
After answering the same question three times he is suddenly transferred to the real planet that the game was based on.
James still has access to his character sheets and delves into this real game, where he now is called Richter.
Richter quickly finds himself dragged into an age-old war. A war between forest sprites and goblins. At the same time, he also ends up in control of his own village that he has to grow.
Is Chaos Seeds good?
The Chaos Seeds books are so far among the best LitRPG books I have read, atlas among the LitRPG book that goes all-in with the game mechanic.
Richter's story is captivating, funny, and a little addictive. I feel like I'm playing the adventure I'm reading and it's always interesting when Richter levels up or finds new loot.
The only thing I hate about this series is the author, he has been attempting to trademark the LitRPG genre. He's a greedy bastard, but his books are good.
Why is Chaos Seeds recommended?
The Chaos Seeds books are LitRPG but it has some nation-building mechanics that can be kind of similar to dungeon building.
Sistina was bound into a jewel. After being buried for millennia with the unknowing owner of her jewel she is finally awakened, but she is bound to her cave.
She finds some fleeing elven slaves hiding out in her caves and decides to help them out. This decision draws her into a war between two elven nations and the slaver kingdom of Kelvanis.
While helping out Sistina becomes a dungeon and stronghold to protect those she loves.
Is Ancient Dreams good?
Ancient Ruins is a good book, not too great, but good.
The main character might be a dungeon, but there are no game mechanics in this book, which is a con or pro depending or your likes.
Fare warning, this book is full of dark and sexual themes.
Why is Ancient Dreams recommended?
Both series are Dungeon Core books. But Ancient Dreams are less on the mechanical side.
Reborn as a Dungeon Heart with only the vaguest recollection of being alive once before he has to grow and survive as a dungeon. He has to become the best dungeon he can.
With the guidance of a Pixie, he works to build a dungeon around himself with corridors and rooms full of monsters and loot.
If this is managed correctly then the dungeon will have a symbiotic, though dangerous, relationship with local adventurers. Adventurers get loot while presenting the dungeon with a chance to increase in power and size.
Is The Slime Dungeon Chronicles good?
Not as good as other dungeon themed books, but still worth a chance, especially if you like Dungeon Core books. It is also kind of short.
Why is The Slime Dungeon Chronicles recommended?
Both books center around dungeons trying to grow more powerful with the help of a pixie.
Life energy known as madra is the basis of civilization on the world of Cradle.
Everyone has madra inside themself.
Sacred artist level up their madra by using different forms of training and ingesting elixirs and spirit-fruits.
The common stages of madra levels a person can reach are Copper to Iron, to Jade, and then to Gold. After Gold, who knows what comes next.
Wei Shi Lindon is a member of the Silverfox Clan. They live in hidden Sacred Valley isolated from the rest of the world.
Lindon is an unsouled.
Unsouled is someone unfit to harness the power of madra. Their madra core does not have an affinity for any element. Making them unlikely to advance their madra levels.
Lindon is unwilling to accept his low status. He is determined to do everything he can to prove his worth. He is willing to risk everything to become a sacred artist.
A tragic event unfolds in the valley, an event that makes a diety takes action. This diety shows Lindon a path to advancement, a path that will take him out of the Sacred Valley.
Can Lindon capable to leave the Sacred Valley, and will he, an unsouled, be able to survive outside it?
Is Cradle good?
Cradle is a fast-paced fantasy adventure series where the main characters keep growing in power. In some ways, it can resemble a shounen anime.
Cradle is a very good cultivation book series. It has most of the elements a cultivation book should have, and it presents it in a good way with a good story.
Sandra was a merchant, but all she wanted to be a crafter. Unfortunately for her hands were deformed and she could not manipulate any basic energy, so she could not follow her dreams. But she did the next best thing, as she traveled around as a merchant see consumed every theoretical knowledge she could about crafting.
Then she was killed.
But then she was reborn, as a dungeon. After some initial confusion, she discovers that she now has the capability to craft, and that's all she wants to do.
But other stuff keeps getting in her way. Everything from invading animals and neighboring humanoids.
Is Dungeon Crafting good?
The Crafter's Dungeon is a very good Dungeon Core series. It has both strong Dungeon Core mechanics and Crafting elements.
What makes it slightly different is that Sandra does not want to consume dungeon crawlers to grow stronger. She just wants to be left alone to her crafting.
New Era Online, NEO, is a full immersion virtual reality game.
Oren Berman is among the most powerful and influential players. He is the guild leader of one of the most power full guilds. In NEO the first person to discover a skill gives you the exclusive right to teach others the skill. Oren has some really good exclusive right, and together with being the guild leader he easily lives of what he makes in-game.
But all these changes when he is betrayed by his own guild commanders.
They use a rare item that transforms your character into a monster, permanently. Oren ends up as a level one goblin far into the uncharted monster territory. If Oren starts a new character he will loose his exclusive skills to the guild that betrayed him. What will he do?
Is New Era Online good?
Life Reset is an excellent LitRPG book. It has interesting game mechanics and character development.
It's fascinating to follow the main character. A person that starts out among the most powerful players, but then he is betrayed, changed to a monster race, and stuck in the game.
Daniel Mahan is unjustly sentenced to prison for eight years. Like most other criminals he has to serve his sentence in a full immersion chamber put in a prison work camp in the VRMMORPG game Barliona.
Barliona is a medieval-like virtual world with monsters and other players.
The game has become so popular that players now choose to spend months online at a time without returning to the real world.
In Barliona, anything goes: You can assault fellow players, level up, become a mythical hero, or just get a regular medieval job if you like. The only rule is that no player is allowed to feel actual pain.
But there's an exception to every rule.
People in Daniel Mahan's position, prisoners, feel just as much pain as they do in real life. For them, Barliona has become their personal hell.
Is Way of the Shaman good?
Way of the Shaman is one of the best LitRPG series I have read, it's also one of the first, so that might affect my judgment.
It has both well-developed characters and a good story. The LitRPG elements are also done in a very good way, which is important.
Eric had a peaceful life as a physic teacher, but then he ended up as a vampire. And if that was not enough, he has hunters from another dimension hunting him.
Eric escapes into this other medieval dimension that the hunters come from and struggles with growing as a vampire, surviving the hunters, and fitting into this new world.
Luckily he is not alone, he has his trusty steed that he created with magic and a flaming sword that is inhabited by a dragon soul.
Is Nightlord good?
The Nightlord books are a highly recommended series.
I love the way he thinks and explain his decisions and magical constructs.
Is NPCs by Drew Hayes good?
Animes like Dungeon Born (The Divine Dungeon #1)
Satoru Mikami s a typical Thirty-seven-year-old corporate worker. The only thing he misses in his life is a girlfriend, otherwise he is is perfectly content with his monotonous lifestyle in Tokyo.
During a regular encounter on the street with a coworker, Satoru is suddenly stabbed by a random assailant. While he is dying he hears a voice in his mind reciting a bunch of commands that he can make any sense of.
When Satoru awakens he discovers that he has reincarnated as a goop of slime in an unfamiliar world. It's a game-like world with skills and stats and Satoru has gained the power to devour anything and mimic its appearance and abilities.
Satoru meats the sealed Catastrophe-Level monster Storm Dragon Veldora who had been sealed away for the past 300 years. Satoru befriends him and promising to assist in destroying the seal. In return, Veldora gives Satoru the name Rimuru Tempest to grant him divine protection. In this world name has power.
Rimuru starts his journey in the world and as he grows accustomed to his new life his actions ripple throughout the world and gradually alter his fate.
Is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime good?
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a good Isakai anime.
Rimuru becomes somewhat overpowered but he is a fine central character. It a decent story where Rimuru meats interesting friends and build a community.
Two siblings with social problems and gigantic gaming addiction are selected and sent into an alternate universe.
This universe is about gaming. All conflict and problems are solved by games. No murder or violence is possible.
They set out to get enough power and influence by winning games so they can play against the god of this universe, the god of gaming.
Is No Game No Life good?
The premise of this anime sounds a little silly, but the anime turns out to be really good.
If you like anime and gaming, then this is a must-watch.
Momonga is a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown int the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil.
The final hour before the game shuts down for god has come and he decides to stay logged in during this event.
To his surprise, despite the clock having struck midnight, and all the servers should have been shut down, Momonga is still fully conscious inside his game character.
What's even more strange is that all the NPCs appear to suddenly have developed personalities of their own.
Surprised by this strange occurrence, Momonga decides to investigate and take control of this new world to figure out the cause and to see if there are others like him.
Is Overlord good?
I recommend this anime, but only if you like this genre. Its one of the better "trapped in RPG game world" animes.
Sword Art Online (SAO), a massive online role-playing game, is launched.
It uses "NerveGear" technology, a technology that lets players control their avatars within the game using nothing but their own thoughts.
Kazuto Kirigaya is one player among ten-thousand others that logs on to SAO as it launches. He was a beta tester for the game, so he has a leg up over most of the others.
The players soon realize they cannot log out. The game’s creator has trapped them in his new world until they complete all one hundred levels of the game.
Is Sword Art Online good?
The animation and sound work is good. Sword Art Online worth watching, but only if you like this kind of animes.
MMORPG gamers find themself transported into the game they play.
Shiroe and the others in Log Horizon attempt to live their lives out in the new world they find themselves trapped in.
They form governments, deal with NPCs and other players.
Is Log Horizon good?
Log Horizon is a very good anime. It`s about more than simple fighting.
