Cal is a Dungeon Hearth, a soul forced into a magical stone against his will. After several years of only instinctive living he was able to regain his sentience which allowed him to form new memories again and slowly start growing a dungeon around himself. With help from a small friend Cal learned to create monsters and traps and how to use treasure to lure in brave adventures to eat so he can grow in power and size.
Dungeon Born is one of the best books I have read in a while. This book is written in a light and funny way. For me it was new and fresh, it was the first dungeon type books i read.
Is Dungeon Born good?
The bobiverse books might not be in a fantasy setting or about a dungeon, but there is something similar there. They are both funny, they build out their domain and power, and they both was once human beings but now are something else.
Why is Dungeon Born recommended?
Wade Watts is a poor teen living with his aunt in the stacks, a trailer park with the trailers stacked atop each other, a place for the poor. Wade only feels alive when he`s inside the OASIS, a popular online game that most of the world is obsessed with. Even with the basic headgear and gloves it's almost like you are inside the game, and it gets even better for those with the money for specialized body suits. The creator of OASIS, James Halliday, told every one before he died that he had hidden an easter egg inside the game, an whomever finds it first will inherit his entire multi-billion dollar fortune. Wade is among the most dedicated hunters that label themselves as gunters. To find the egg they study the life of Halliday, especially his earlier days in the 80s. When Wade is the first to find the first clue thing takes a nasty turn when he discovers that people are willing to kill him in the real world to get it.
This book is full of pop culture from the 80s, especially the cool nerdy stuff. Sadly I`m a little to young to have experienced the 80s pop culture, but i know some of it, and it is still cool. It is all those references that makes the book shine the most, Ready Player One would be as good without it.
Is Ready Player One good?
They are both funny and full of popular culture references.
Why is Ready Player One recommended?
Martin Banks is a guy with an above normal interest in computers. He loves nothing more than snooping on files he should not have access to. One day he makes an abnormal discovery. He finds a file that changes reality when he edits it. Implying that reality, himself included, is nothing more than an elaborate computer program. Every little tweak he dos to make his life a little easier does not go unnoticed. Rather than face prosecution and trying to explain what he can do, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.
I love the concept, and the humor story around it is marvelous. If you are afraid of laughing around strangers, then you should probably read it at home. Sadly the third book was a huge disappointment, but the two first are extraordinary.
Is Off to Be the Wizard good?
The earth's government agencies started to breed child geniuses to train as soldiers in order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack. The brilliant young boy Andrew "Ender" Wiggin is drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training. Ender's skills make him a leader among his peers and respected in the Battle Room, where they play at mock battles in zero gravity. Will Ender become the great general Earth needs to survive?
Do not judge a book by its authors personal views. This is an excellent book, and you should not forego it because of Orson Scott Card stupid personal views.
Is Ender's Game good?
Arthur Dent escapes from earth with help from his friend Ford Prefect moments before our planet is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway. Ford Prefect is a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but for the last fifteen years he has posed as out-of-work actor on earth. Together they begin a journey through space aided by The Hitchhiker’s Guide. On their journey they meet a bunch of interesting characters and friends. Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy. Trillian, Zaphod’s girlfriend, formally Tricia McMillan, whom Arthur once tried to pick up at a cocktail party. Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot. Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an extremely funny science fiction classic. Must read for everyone, especially if you like funny lighthearted sci-fi.
Is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy good?
Over the horizon came ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, the Ruhar. That was earths first contact with alien spices, just like the Native Americans in 1492 contact with Europeans. Suddenly a group of other starships jumps in, the Kristang, and fight off the Ruhar. The UN Expeditionary Force hitched a ride on Kristang ships to fight the Ruhar wherever the Kristangs thought we could be useful. But all is not as it seems.
Similar formula as many military science fiction books, which is a good formula, only among the better of those books. Absolutely worth reading.
Is Columbus Day good?
Mark Watney is the first person to walk on mars. But after a dust storm nearly kills him, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there too. The storm forced his crew to evacuate while believing him dead. Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive, and with a dwindling food supply. Drawing on his ingenuity and his botanist and engineering skills he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. With only one main goal in sight, contacting earth and survive until he can be rescued.
I loved it. A great story and much technical details. If you do not like the later, you should probably stay away.
Is The Martian good?
Pierson's puppeteers, three-legged, two-headed aliens, have discovered an immense structure in an unexplored part of the universe. This structure is a vast circular ribbon of matter, some 180 million miles across, with a sun at its center. The puppeteers set about assembling a team consisting of two humans, a puppeteer and a kzin, an alien that looks like an eight-foot-tall, red-furred cat, to explore it. The expedition starts in a disaster when their spaceship crashlands and they have to travel across thousands of miles of the Ringworld's surface.
It's a while since I read this book, but I remember it as being great. It's a classic in its genre.
Is Ringworld good?
Kyle Riggs is snatched by an alien spacecraft that is testing everyone it catches and murdering the weak. Kyle keeps passing tests and stays alive and he ends up in control of a high-tech ship. But the snag is that he has to use it to defeat a much bigger threat. To do this he has to learning about the ships and what it.can do.
God space series if you like that kind of stuff. Nothing special, but acceptable entertainment.
Is Swarm good?
Harry Dresden, a Chicago bound professional wizard, and the only one with an ad in the yellow pages. Business is sadly dreadful, so he jumps on it when the local police bring him in as a consultant on a strange double murder.
The Dresden Files is a must read for anyone with the slightest interest in this gangrene.
Is Storm Front good?
Animes like We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse #1)
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) is a wast space opera. For decades, the two interstellar empires, the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, has been locked in an interstellar war involving thousands of spaceships and millions of soldiers. This anime is full of drama, political conflicts, and war. It differ by most other animes in that it is based on a sci-fi book series instead of a manga.
This is one of the better animes out there. It's also an anime that I recommend for people who generally do not like animes. However, it is very long and old. Sadly it`s kind of hard to get hold of it legally, at least where I live.
Is Legend of the Galactic Heroes good?
After witnessing what they believe to be a UFO flying toward the Moon, Mutta Nanba and his younger brother Hibito makes a childhood promise vowing to become astronauts when they grow up. Adult life hasn't turned out how Mutta had pictured it. He works at an automotive company, while his younger brother Hibito is on his way to be the very first Japanese man to step on the Moon. After losing his job and being forced to move home with his parents, Mutta is presented with an unexpected opportunity to catch up to his younger brother. The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) accepts his application to take part in their next astronaut selection. Mutta jumps on this chance to fulfill the promise they made 19 years ago.
This is an amazing anime. It might be a little long for people who dos not regularly watch animes, but they should still try it. It's a passionate story of two brothers that aim to become astronauts.
Is Space Brothers good?
Ai Tanabe joins Technora Corporation as a member of their Debris Section, a department dedicated to the removal of dangerous space junk between Earth and the Moon. It's an important job so the big Companies can fly safely but she soon discovers how unappreciated her job is. The Debris Section is the laughingstock of the Technora company. It's severely understaffed and poorly funded. AI gradually becomes acquainted with the strange personalities that make up the Debris Section's staff. Such as the clumsy but good-natured chief clerk Philippe Myers. The mysterious and tight-lipped Edelgard Rivera. And the hotheaded and passionate Hachirota Hoshino, who longs for a spaceship to call his own.
This is a great anime. More realistic, even if it is set in the future, and adult than most anime. People that generally dos not like anime might actually like this one.
Is Planetes good?
TV-Shows like We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse #1)
Astronaut John Crichton is on an experimental space mission to test a new spacecraft slingshoting around the globe. He is accidentally is accidentally sucked into a wormhole and emerged into the midst of an intergalactic conflict far out in the universe. He joins the crew on Moya ( a living sentient bio-mechanical space ship ) who picked him up after his unfortunate wormhole ride. He has to get to grips with living among alien creatures wielding deadly technology and being hunted by the Peacekeepers, a merciless military race.
This is a cool sciences fiction show, but not the best. I could for some reason not stomach the actor playing John Crichton. I had problems with him when he was on SG-1 also. This is probably just me, and many will likely disagree with me on this. If you have no problems with him, then this show might be pretty good, absolutely worth watching.
Is Farscape good?
Captain Dylan Hunt and his sentient warship Andromeda has been frozen in time for 300 years circling around the border of a black hole. For him the time of the Commonwealth was yesterday and not 300 years ago. He is rescued from the black hole by a salvage ship and its crew. They of course have no idea he is still alive and on board. They are only after the money the can get for the ship. The crew of the salvage ship is left for dead by their captain, and they ends up joining Captain Dylan Hunt on his quest to restore the Commonwealth and bring unity to the galaxy once again.
I remember I loved it the first time I watched this show. But when I tried to watch it a second time I was bored. However, I still believe it is worth giving this show a try.
Is Andromeda good?
Movie like We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse #1)
Earth has been almost destroyed by disasters, famines, and droughts. A newly discovered wormhole in the far reaches of our solar system has given humankind one last chance for survival. A team of astronauts is sent into the wormhole to see if there is a suitable planet for colonization on the other side.
Interstellar is one of the better science fiction movies ever made. It's probably gone be remembered as a classic.
