James and his friends were among the top teams on the newest and greatest VRMMORPG game The Land. When they are riding a new dungeon he is separated from his friends and after answering the same question three times to what he thinks is a game boss he is suddenly transferred to the real planet that the game was based on. He still has access to his character sheets and delves into this real game with his new name Richter. Richter quickly finds himself dragged into an age-old war between forest sprites and goblins while also ending up in control of his own village that he has to grow.
The Chaos Seeds series is one of the better LitRPG series out there. Luckily LitRPG is a rapidly growing genre, so there is constantly coming out more and better books in this genre. This list should give you some good suggestions for what to try after you read the last book in The Land series.
Most suggestions from the list below have some important elements in common. The main thing they have in common is that they have strong rpg game-like elements with leveling and character building with stats and skills. Some are set in virtual game worlds, but some are also real worlds with game-like elements. You will probably like most of them if you like The Land (The Chaos Seeds series) books.

Jason attends a prestigious private school and his parents are reasonably well off. But he is bullied by both students and faculty and his parents are never home. Frustrated with his life Jason escapes into the newly released full immersion VRMMORPG game Awaken Online. Jason quickly finds himself on the path to be one of the game's greater villains with his powerful necromantic power and newly won leadership of a new playable race. He constantly logs on to the game for the freedom and power he gets in it that he is lacking in real life. One of the reasons for his growing power in the game is that one of the major AIs in Awaken Online has taken an interest in him and in humanity.
Is Awaken Online: Catharsis good?
Awaken Online online is one of the best LitRPG series. Usually, I don't like LitRPG books that are too much in the real world, but in this case, Travis Bagwell has managed to keep that part interesting too. Awaken Online has interesting game mechanics, and I like how the AI overlords interact with the game. Awaken Online is an amazing book series that is absolutely worth reading, especially if you like LitRPG books.
Why is Awaken Online: Catharsis recommended?
Awaken Online is another LitRPG book that is definitely worth reading if you like the book series The Land. Awaken Online and The Land both are very similar series. Both have strong game mechanics and both include city or faction like building in addition to character development. Some of the main differences are that Awaken Online is an actual game where the story is in both worlds and that the main character is playing the bad guy.
Awaken Online is just like The Land, another excellent LitRPG book series that is absolutely worth checking out.
Joe is an army medic that had an accident at work and has become a quadriplegic with no chance of getting healthy again. When he is given the option to permanently transition his consciousness into a virtual world, a game, he takes it. When he enters the game he is given the option of picking a special class, a ritualist. Its a class with huge potential, but it also has the drawback that if anyone discovers his class he will be hunted down.
Is Ritualist good?
The Ritualist (Completionist Chronicles books one) is among the best LitRPG books I have read so far. Joe does not have a typical fighting class, and he is not turned into a Mary Sue character. The story is also interesting, and I love the game elements and character leveling in this book.
Why is Ritualist recommended?
Joe from The Completionist Chronicles is in a game world. He is not Transferedover too another real-world with game mechanics like Richter is, but Joe is fully transferred into the game, he can never return. The Completionist Chronicles is also more focused on character development, it has some guild development, but it does not have City building focus like The Land has.
If you like The Land, then Ritualist (The Completionist Chronicles) is a good book series to check out.
Erik and Rugrat are both combat veterans, Erik is a combat medic and Rugrat is a Marine Recon sniper. During a mercenary trip guarding some shady copper mine owners, they are caught in an ambush and Erik ends up losing his legs and his arm. And to top it off, they both get the Two Week Curse. It's a strange sickness that where they get a strange message saying that they have been randomly selected to join the Ten Realms, where one may choose to ascend the Ten Realms, thereupon making a request to the Gods of the Realms. People who get this curse dissipates in a bright flash after exactly two weeks. As the harden veterans they are, they do their best to prepare for what is going to happen. When the two weeks are up they are teleported to a new strange world where people can rank up as in a game and cultivate their internal power.
Is The Two Week Curse good?
The Ten Realms Series is not the absolute best of its genre, but it is absolutely worth reading for people that are interesting in the LitRPG and Cultivation/Wuxia genres. It's interesting to see how Erik and Rugrat use their military knowledge and comradery to work together to take on their new strange circumstances. One of the major problems with the series is that Eric and Rugrath soon become too powerful, and another is that the initial preparation part before they get to the new world is a little too long.
Why is The Two Week Curse recommended?
Erik and Rugrat from the Ten Realm books are also transferred to another world with RPG game mechanics. Just like The Land, the Ten Realm books also have empire-building as a side focus and character leveling as the main focus. The Ten realms have mixed more elements from cultivation/wuxia in its leveling mechanics while The Land has more pure RPG leveling mechanics. If you like The Land then the
Ten Realms books are a good suggestion for something new in the same genre.
Cal is a Dungeon Hearth, a soul forced into a magical stone against his will. After several years of only instinctive living he was able to regain his sentience which allowed him to form new memories again and slowly start growing a dungeon around himself. With help from a small friend Cal learned to create monsters and traps and how to use treasure to lure in brave adventures to eat so he can grow in power and size.
Is Dungeon Born good?
Dungeon Born is one of the best books I have read in a while. This book is written in a light and funny way. For me it was new and fresh, it was the first dungeon type books i read.
Why is Dungeon Born recommended?
Dungeon Born and The Land is both in the LitRPG genre, even tho Dungeon Born is more in its own subgenre called Dungeon Core and it has strong cultivation/wuxia elements in how they grow stronger. Cal is a dungeon, so much of his leveling is also about dungeon building, but Dungeon Born also includes side characters that are humans.
Dungeon Born is definitely worth checking out if you like The Land, even tho its lightly more of a cross-genre book.
Daniel Mahan is unjustly sentenced to prison for eight years, like most other criminals he has to serve his sentence in a full immersion chamber put in a prison work camp in the VRMMORG game Barliona. Barliona is a medieval-like virtual world with monsters and other players. The game has become so popular that players now choose to spend months online without returning home. In Barliona, anything goes: You can assault fellow players, level up, become a mythical hero, or just get a regular medieval job if you like. The only rule is that no player is allowed to feel actual pain. But there's an exception to every rule. People in Daniel Mahan's position, prisoners, feel just as much pain as they do in real life. For them, Barliona has become their personal hell.
Is Survival Quest good?
This is one of the best LitRPG series I have read, it's also one of the first, so that might affect my judgment. It has both well-developed characters and a good story. The LitRPG elements are also done in a very good way.
Why is Survival Quest recommended?
In Way of the Shaman, Daniel is temporarily stuck in a virtual world where he feels real pain, so for the moment, this is like a real-world for him. Way of the Shaman also has more focus on character leveling and some guild development and not on city or empire development. If you like The Land then the Way of the Shaman is worth giving a try.
Way of the Shaman is one of the better LitRPGs out there.
New Era Online, NEO, is a full immersion virtual reality game. Oren Berman is a powerful and influential player. He is the guild leader of one of the most power full guilds. In NEO the first person to discover a skill gives you the exclusive right to teach others the skill. Oren has some really good exclusive right, and together with being the guild leader he easily lives of what he makes in-game. But all these changes when he is betrayed by his own guild commanders. They use a rare item that transforms your character into a monster, permanently. Oren ends up as a level one goblin far into the uncharted monster territory. If Oren starts a new character he will loose his exclusive skills to the guild that betrayed him. What will he do?
Is Life Reset good?
Life Reset is an excellent LitRPG book. It has interesting game mechanics and character development.
Why is Life Reset recommended?
New Era Online has many similarities with The Land. It has game-like mechanics, the main character levels from scratch and become powerful and city building is a big part of the story. The main differences are that the New Era Online is a game, and Oren is stuck as a monster.
Life Reset (New Era Online, book 1) is absolutely worth reading if you like The Land and LitRPG books.
A mysterious all-powerful entity bestows individuals with a mysterious powerful tattoo. Activating this tattoo gives you a user interface that can be used to buy supernatural powers and knowledge of whatever you want, as long as you have the points to buy it for. The tattoo also shows you how to acquire those points. Ace and Vincent are two friends that have been chosen to get this new tattoo by the mysterious entity. Together they start to systematically gain points an new abilities as possible. This tattoo is changing our society, will it be for the better, or for the worse?
Is Desire: A LitRPG Adventure good?
Desire: A LitRPG Adventure is an interesting LitRPG book. It's not among the best, and it has overpowered main characters. But it is still worth reading if you like LitRPG books.
Why is Desire: A LitRPG Adventure recommended?
Desire is set in our world, altho an altered world, and it has more science-fiction elements in it. But it has game-like leveling mechanics with points and abilities, and it also has something like an empire/city building like element. If you like The Land and have consumed most of the other suggestions on this list, then Desire is worth a look.

Animes like The Land: Founding (Chaos Seeds #1)
Momonga is a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown int the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil. The final hour before the game shuts down for god has come and he decides to stay logged in during this event. To his surprise, despite the clock having struck midnight, and all the servers should have been shut down, Momonga is still fully conscious inside his game character. Whats even more strange is that all the NPCs appear to suddenly have developed personalities of their own. Surprised by this strange occurrence, Momonga decides to investigate and take control of this new world to figure out the cause and to see if there are others like him.
Is Overlord good?
I recommend this anime, but only if you like this genre. Its one of the better "trapped in rpg game world" animes.
Why is Overlord recommended?
The main character in Overlord does not do much leveling anymore, he is max level and overpowered. But there are some city-building and empire governing mechanics. The main character has to govern his kingdom and interact with his neighboring NPC kingdoms, which is harder now that the NPC have come to life. If you like The Land and like Anime, then overlord is worth watching.
Sword Art Online (SAO), a massive online role-playing game, is launched. It uses "NerveGear" technology, a technology that lets players control their avatars within the game using nothing but their own thoughts. Kazuto Kirigaya is one player among ten-thousand others that logs on to SAO as it launches. The players soon realize they cannot log out. The game’s creator has trapped them in his new world until they complete all one hundred levels of the game.
Is Sword Art Online good?
The animation and sound work is good, but the rest, the important parts, is mediocre. It`s still absolutely worth watching, but only if you like this kind of animes.
Why is Sword Art Online recommended?
Sword art online has less NPC interaction than Log Horizon and Overlord. It focuses more on leveling and player interactions. At least the first season, each has different games. Sword Art Online is worth watching if you like The Land or other LitRPG books, and you also like to watch anime.
MMORPG gamers find themself transported into the game they play. Shiroe and the others in Log Horizon attempt to live their lives out in the new world they find themselves trapped in. Form governemts, deal with NPCs and other players.
Is Log Horizon good?
Log Horizon is a very good anime. It`s about more than simple fighting.
Why is Log Horizon recommended?
The players that are stuck in Log Horizon have to figure out how to survive. They form guilds and learn how to interact with the NPC that suddenly acts more lifelike than before. Log Horizon is worth watching if you like LitRPGs like The Land and like to watch Anime. Give it a try.
