Astronaut John Crichton is on an experimental space mission. Its goal is to test a new spacecraft slingshotting around the globe.

He is accidentally sucked into a wormhole. When he emerges he is in the midst of an intergalactic conflict far out in the universe.

John joins the crew on Moya. A living sentient bio-mechanical space ship. They picked him up after his unfortunate wormhole ride.

He has to get to grips with living among alien creatures wielding deadly technology. And if that was not enough, they are being hunted by the Peacekeepers, a merciless military race

Farscape is a cool science-fiction show, but not the best.

I could for some reason not stomach the actor playing John Crichton. I had problems with him when he was on SG-1 also. This is probably just me, and many will likely disagree with me on this. If you have no problems with him, then this show is pretty good.

Farscape is absolutely worth watching.

Farscape has a more episodic nature than Babylon 5, and it's based on a spaceship instead of a space station. But it does have red plot thread guiding the episodes and the crew is interacting with lots of factions. Farscape is less serious and more humoristic than Babylon 5.

If you like Babylon 5 and want to start another long science-fiction journey then check out Farscape. Especially if you want something less serious and more in the wandering spaceship genre.

Starfleet Commander Benjamin Sisko arrives on Deep Space Nine to take command of the space station. Shortly after their arrival, the Starfleet crew discovers a stable wormhole.

Deep Space Nine quickly becomes a central hub for exploration, interstellar trade, political maneuvering, and open conflict.

External threats to the station come from many directions. Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, and Dominion. But internal conflicts between allies and friends is also a real threat. Scheming during political maneuverings and trade negotiations can be intense and high stake.

DS9 is one of my personal favorites in the Star Trek universe.

The show has good character development and interesting recurring villains. It also has a continuous story, so problems don't mysteriously dissipate like they sometimes do in episodic shows. It's a good show.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) is almost an exact copy of Babylon 5 that is set in the Star Trek universe. Its strange someone was not sued, or one of the shows was not stopped.

Babylon 5 is the superior show of the two, but if you like it and want more then you will most likely also like Deep Space Nine. Especially if you also like the Star Trek universe. Check it out.

Chrisjen Avasarala is a high ranking United Nations executive and diplomat. Far away from the struggles in deep space, on Earth, she works to prevent war between Earth and Mars by any means.

Police detective Josephus Miller, fright officer James Holden, and diplomat Chrisjen Avasarala, discovers something scary.

A vast covert conspiracy involving the missing woman and the ice freighter's fate which threatens all humanity.

The Expanse is one of the better space TV-Shows.

It has excellent world-building and well-paced story. This show has it all! From high-level political intrigues to low-level street action and with everything in between.

The Expansehas no aliens with weird haircuts and strange habits. But the political tension between the Earth Alliance and its colonies has many similarities with Babylon 5.

Check out The Expanse if you like Babylon 5. You will do yourself a disfavor if you don't give it a chance.

After losing the Great War the former servants of the now-exiled Shadows wants revenge.

They spread a powerful biological weapon into Earth's atmosphere. It will adapt itself to humanity's genetic makeup before it activates

Then it will kill every last human.

This engineered plague is far ahead of humanity's technological understanding. There is no time to catch up to it.

Humanity decides on searching the ruins of ancient alien civilizations for a solution. There they hope to find some ancient advanced technology that can cure the disease.

Leading this archeological mission to save humanity is the starship Excalibur. It has a team from the new Interstellar Alliances elite troubleshooting corps, the Rangers.

Crusade is the same fictional universe as Babylon 5, but it is very different.

Babylon 5 is a much better show than Crusade. But it is still worth watching.

Crusade has potential, but it was canceled after one season. The production company messed it up.

Crusade is a spinoff from Babylon 5. It's quite different, but it's set in the same universe and has many common references.

If you like Babylon 5 then Crusade is worth a try if you want more from the same universe. Even if it only got one season.

An ancient alien race filled our galaxy with stargates. Portals that can create artificial wormholes between each other. Making it easier and faster to travel our galaxy.

One of those stargates is found on earth. The United States Military forms a task force to explore these new planets that have open up for us.

Stargate SG-1 has plenty of episodes exploring scientific theories and old religions.

This show has a good mix of seriousness and humor. It has episodic content andlong-term story arcs.

Stargate SG-1 is absolutely worth a try if you like this kind of geeky shows.

Stargate SG-1 is much more episodic than Babylon 5, but it has a thin red thread that goes thru all the seasons. In between the action and exploration, there are also some political intrigues and plotting. They find allies and enemies among the planets they explore.

Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds is a former galactic war veteran.

Now Mal is the captain of the transport ship Serenity.

Mal is kind of like Han Solo from Star Wars. A small-time smuggler hiding behind his legal transport services.

His crew consists of. Zoe, his old war buddy. Wash, the pilot. Jayne Cobb, the muscle. Kaylee Frye, the mechanic. Simon Tam, the medic, and his sister River. Inara Serra, a courtesan. And the last one, Shepherd Book, a preacher.

Together they do any jobs, legal or illegal. They travel across the outskirts of outer space sparking up trouble wherever they go.

Firefly is a superb show. I can't fathom why it got canceled after only one season. I want a new show like this.

Watch it now! Just do it.

Firefly has similarly interesting and realistic characters as Babylon 5. It's set more in a wild west kind of world and they fly around in a spaceship.

Definitely check out Firefly if you liked Babylon 5.

The Cylons returns and devastate the human population.

Only a ragtag fleet of refugees lead by President Laura Roslin remains. Their only defense is the historic ship Battlestar Galactica, commanded by Commander Adama.

They are searching for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. But they also has to avoid the Cylon army and infiltrators and deal with political intrigues.

Battlestar Galactica is one of the best TV-Shows of all time.

Even people who hate sci-fi might enjoy this show.

Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5 are both science-fiction shows full of political intrigues and long complex plot lines.

If you like Babylon 5 then definitely check out Battlestar Galactica.

Captain Dylan Hunt and his sentient warship Andromeda have been frozen in time for 300 years. They have been circling around the border of a black hole.

For Captain Dylan Hunt, the time of the Commonwealth was yesterday and not 300 years ago.

He is rescued from the black hole by a salvage ship and its crew. They, of course, have no idea he is still alive and onboard. They are only after the money the can get for the ship.

The crew of the salvage ship is left for dead by their captain. Then they end up joining Captain Dylan Hunt on his quest to restore the Commonwealth and bring unity to the galaxy once again.

I remember I loved it the first time I watched this show. But when I tried to watch it a second time I was bored.

However, I still believe it is worth giving this show a try.

The secret of the Stargate's ninth chevron is discovered.

It opens a wormhole to the unmanned starship Destiny. Its an experiment launched by the Ancients hundreds of millennia ago.

A team of explorers from Earth is sent to investigate this starship. They are led by Dr. Nicolas Rush and Colonel Everett Young.

When they enter the ship by the stargate they get trapped. Unable to call back home or too change its programmed mission, they are forced to complete its original mission.

On Destiny they travel far out into the universe, in a distant galaxy, encountering new races and enemies.

I know some SG-1 fans dislike SG-Universe, but I love it. It a little darker than the other SG shows, but that actually makes it better. Sad it only lasted two seasons.

This is a grand story of duplicity and treachery, nobility and honor, conquest and triumph.

When you play the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die.

While the noble families play their deadly game, an ancient evil awakens in the north. The Night's Watch is all that stands between the realms of men and this ancient evil.

The Night's Watch is a neglected military order of sinners, outcasts, and people that need to disappear.

Game of Thrones is almost perfect if it was not for the last few seasons. But it's still very much worth watching.

Stargate Command has discovered the city of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy.

They send Dr. Elizabeth Weir and Major Sheppard to lead a scientific expedition to Atlantis. Their goal is to discover the secrets of this ancient abandoned city.

When they arrive they find them-self unable to call back to earth. And to make matters worse, they reawaken the Ancients' deadly enemies, The Wraith.

With the help of local allies, they start to uncover their new home's secrets. Can they learn to use this city in their war of survival against the Wraith?

Cazaril is a broken man in both spirit and body. He has been betrayed and used by the current rulers of Chalion.

He has been chosen to be a seacret-tutor to Iselle, the beautiful, strong-willed sister of the impetuous boy who is next in line to rule. The Curse of Chalion is a must-read for any fantasy fan that appreciates good literature.

Lois McMaster Bujold is an excellent author and she is on top of her game in this book.

The Curse of Chalion is not bout an orphan boy that grows to become an overpowered savior of the world. The main character is already an adult with many psychological and physical scars. And the story is more about political intrigues and human relations than war and killing.

The Curse of Chalion is a fantasy book, but it has plenty of political maneuverings and a rich complex story.

It has it all. Greate adventures with interesting characters and excellent world-building wit a living world. The world of Dune has a complex ecology and a living culture with deep and intriguing politics.

Dune should be on the must-read list of every science-fiction fan!

Dune and Babylon 5 are both long and complex stories with political tension between different empires and nations.

Check out Dune if you want a book that is kind of similar to Babylon 5.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The first book in The Wheel of Time (The Eye of the World) starts out in the peaceful village of Emond's Field. The villagers pay little attention to rumors of war in the western lands. They just keep on with their daily life. Wars are something they just hear about and never see.

The Wheel of Time is a richly detailed fantasy world and a fully realized and complex adventure. It will appeal to most fans of classic epic fantasy stories.

The Wheel of time is highly recommended!

But, some of the later books can be a drag to read.

Wheel of Time might be fantasy and Babylon 5 might be science fiction, but both have a long complex political storyline. Wheel of Time become political after a few books, not so much in the first one.

A Song of Ice and Fire is set in a medieval-like fantasy world. A world where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime.

The characters in this epic story are struggling amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, in the only game that matters, the game of thrones.

In the game of thrones, you either win or you die, there is no middle ground.

This is an excellent book series.

It is sadly not finished jet. It will probably take decades before it is finished unless the author gets his finger out of his ass.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) is a wast space opera anime.

For decades two interstellar empires have been locked in an interstellar war. A war involving thousands of spaceships and millions of soldiers. There is no end in sight for the war between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance.

This anime is full of drama, political conflicts, and war. It differs from most other animes in that it is based on a sci-fi book series instead of a manga.

This is one of the better animes out there. People who usually don't watch anime might also like this. But it is very long and old, but that should not turn you away from it.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is like the Babylon 5 of anime. It has a long story with a complex scope that is expertly executed.

If you like Babylon 5 and want to try a similarish anime then you should check out Legend of the Galactic Heroes. But be warned, it is long and a little dated.
