If you love the cult classic Veronica Mars and want more like it then this article is for you.
We have attempted to create a good list of recommendations similar to Veronica Mars. This is of course no simple task because Veronica Mars was such an excellent and unique show. But we have done our best.
Veronica Mars is a teenage crime solver with a Private Investigator (PI) for a dad.
She helps out friends and schoolmates solving small and big problems, for a small fee of course, unless you qualify for friends and family discount.
While she works on these small episodic cases she also works on longer seasonal problems.
TV-Shows like Veronica Mars
Dex Parios is a sharp-witted Marine veteran that takes care of her brother who has Down syndrome, even when she herself is struggling with PTSD and alcohol abuse. She works as a private investigator in Portland, Oregon, even though her license is kind of dodgy.
She tries her best to keep her brother out of her work, but other characters like her the bar ownerGrey McConnell, the detective Miles Hoffman, the tribe elder, and casino CEO Sue Lynn Blackbird are frequently involved in her cases. And not to forget the cook Tookie, whom together with Grey often ends up helping Dex with her brother while she is busy.
Why is Stumptown recommended?
Stumptown is like a version of Veronica Mars where she has grown up. Not just grown up, but gone to the army, been mentally damaged, and become an alcoholic. Take away the mental and alcohol issues and Dex might just be an older brunette version of Veronica.
If you watched Veronica Mars in your youth and want to watch a version of the show aimed at an older audience then Stumptown is definitely worth giving a try.
Nancy Drew is a brilliant teenage detective known for solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay. When her mother died Nancy needed a change of pace and swore off any sort of crime-solving. But she is dragged back against her will when she finds herself as one of the main suspects in the murder of a big socialite.
Why is Nancy Drew recommended?
Nancy Drew is not as good as Veronica Mars, and it has some supernatural elements to it. It is kind of a supernatural version of Veronica Mars, just not as good.
It is kind of aimed at a similar audience, but also not. It also has those younger girl detective parts, but something feels different. In any case, Nancy Drew is worth checking out if you like Veronica Mars.
After a case went bad for Alec Hardly in his former workplace he has transferred to Broadchurch as the new Detective Inspector. Broadchurch is a seemingly calm and friendly seaside town.
As soon as Alecstarts he is tossed into a case revolving around a dead 11-year-old boy. Broadchurch is a small town and a death like this has never happened before.
As DI Alec Hardly and his partner DS Ellie Miller starts investigating they discover that almost everyone in this quiet town has secrets they do not want to share.
Their investigation takes them from one suspect to another as they are unwinding all the secrets people are unwilling to share. And at the same time they have to deal with the media feeding frenzy.
Why is Broadchurch recommended?
The cases in Veronica Mars were often deeply personal to Veronica, and the same goes for the detectives in Broadchurch. It takes a close look at tragedy that will interest most people who followed Veronica's journey. The actors are middle age and British, so it is not as aimed at teens as Veronica Mars was.
