Books like Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin #1)
The Book of Jhereg (Vlad Taltos #1) by Steven Brust
Vlad Taltos is a wise-cracking assassin and mobster. Being an Easterner in the Dragaeran city of Adrilankha is not easy but despite that, Vlad has managed to become a minor boss in the criminal syndicate of the Jhereg Organization.
He arrogantly accepts a job with a staggeringly large reward from an extremely powerful and fared member of the Organization's ruling Council.
The job is to assassinate Mellar, another Jhereg crime lord who has absconded with a fortune from the Jhereg treasury.
No on steels from the organization and survives, or get a fast death.
Why is Vlad Taltos recommended?
The Vlad Taltos books have some strong similarities. Vlad is an assassin and a mobster. He starts out like this and there are no coming of age elements. He also regularly interact with other big criminals.
The main difference is that the Vlad Taltos books are set in a different world with some medieval elements and much magic.
If you like the Elemental Assassin books and want something similar but not in the Urban Fantasy genre then the Vlad Taltos books are highly recommended.

The hours just fly by as we live the life of Kylar Stern.
Why is The Night Angel Trilogy recommended?
Azoth from The Night Angel Trilogy also lived on the streets as a child before a famous assassin took him in to train him. But unlike Gin, he never had a family.
The Night Angel Trilogy is an Epic Fantasy story set in medieval times. It also has some coming of age elements to it.

Is Kate Daniels good?
This is a good read and the start of a great series. Magic Bites has a strong and interesting heroine. It's worth reading.

The Kate Daniels books are good Urban Fantasy books. They have a little more romance in them, but not much more.
